Wavegarden‘s unique patented technology ensures you have a facility that requires minimal civil engineering work, low energy consumption and has a nearly imperceptible visual impact on its natural surroundings.

The Wavegarden wave generator can be set up in existing bodies of water (lakes, reservoirs and sports facilities) or purpose-built to your specifications.
In both cases, the civil engineering work required to set up the wave generator is minimal and can be carried out when draining the water to clean or service the facility. If your Wavegarden has been purpose-built, its characteristics will be similar to those of a shallow natural lake. The cost of the civil engineering work is mainly allocated to the earth moving and levelling of the land required to shape a lake. Large amounts of concrete are not necessary with Wavegarden, thus reducing the overall cost and environmental impact associated with setting up a conventional wave pool.
The wave generator is mainly under the water surface, which means that there is practically no visual impact. This is a great advantage as there are no facilities or visible machinery that affect the harmony of the natural setting where the Wavegarden is set up.

A distinct difference to Wavegarden’s breakthrough wave generation design is that the technology requires much less energy than existing wave facilities do.
Our vision has been to create high quality, affordable surf spots in a natural, environmentally friendly setting for people of all ages and abilities, anywhere in the world. Therefore, right from the very start, factors have been taken into account which effect the life cycle of the Wavegarden system (raw materials, production, transport, use, end-of-life, recycled, and reused materials) with the goal of being able to reach zero CO2 emissions both in its implementation and its use.
You will also benefit from our technical and engineering expertise to ensure that not only the wave generator, but the overall functionality of your surf centre, is as sustainable and natural as possible. For example, if water treatment is needed we can recommend a system based on technology that is effective, safe and practically free of expensive and environmentally dangerous chemicals, such as chlorine.

We considered how far your home should be from your favourite beach and the nearest Wavegarden to work out the distance at which surfing at Wavegarden has a lower carbon footprint. The calculation was based on the following hypotheses:
Your car is a utility vehicle and you travel by yourself.
You spend an hour and a half surfing at Wavegarden.This is a rough calculation and is only based on the direct energy used by the car and wave generator. It does not take into account the energy used to build the Wavegarden, the roads or the car itself.
The study shows that your carbon footprint would be less if you surfed at your Wavegarden, provided that it is at least half an hour nearer to your home than your favourite beach.
